Jasmine Tan

Raised in Hong Kong, trained in Toronto. I’m a finance student applying for 2027 summer analyst roles across investment banking, sales & trading, and corporate banking — and I’d rather learn this business where the questions are generated than read the write-up afterwards.

About

I grew up in Hong Kong and study finance at Rotman Commerce, University of Toronto. Watching Asia’s markets from eleven time zones away has made me pay very deliberate attention to them — and made me certain I want to start my career where credit, currencies and capital flows between China and the world are actually priced.

My experience so far deliberately spans the sides of the business: buy-side research and compliance at a Hong Kong multi-asset manager, operational finance inside one of the city’s largest institutions, and six weeks building a small business from the ground up in a Cape Town township. Different rooms, same lesson — the work only counts when it changes a decision.

I work fast, independently, and with modern tools. And I’m good company on a long day.

Where I Fit

Track A

Investment Banking

Trained in financial statement analysis, valuation and stock pitching through Rotman’s Capital Markets Accelerator Program — one of 30 candidates selected.

Diligence instincts built the unglamorous way: KYC/AML cross-checks, transaction reconciliations and internal-control validation to SFC standards at Truth Capital.

Track B

Sales & Trading

I’ve sat on the client side of coverage: writing monthly cross-asset regulatory updates spanning equities, FX and repo, and researching China macro-credit for a HKD 560M multi-asset firm.

I watched which memos moved a position and which were politely filed. Coverage only counts when it lands on the mandate a client is actually managing.

Track C

Corporate Banking

Live exposure to how a large institution buys, negotiates and manages suppliers — auditing fiscal-year procurement data and supporting supplier negotiations at the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

A credit lens from China macro work: fiscal constraints, deleveraging risk, and what they mean for a counterparty’s ability to pay.

Track D

Asset Management

The seat I’ve actually held: inside a Hong Kong multi-asset manager, where research, compliance and execution meet a live portfolio — and where I learned to read what a mandate actually permits.

CMAP training in valuation and stock pitching supplies the security-selection toolkit; the buy-side desk taught the discipline — sizing, constraints, and knowing why you own what you own.

Experience

Current Jul – Aug 2026 Hong Kong SAR

The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Finance Intern — Strategic Procurement, F&B & Hospitality

Audited fiscal-year procurement data and presented year-over-year growth and variance analyses to management. Built an internal supplier search tool so business units could actually find approved suppliers and their product offerings — the data existed; the access didn’t.

Supported supplier–chef negotiations following a quality inspection, and joined an on-site readiness visit to the Conghua Racecourse in mainland China ahead of its launch as the country’s first racecourse and training centre.

May – Jun 2026 Cape Town, South Africa

Reciprocity Co. Ltd.

Business Consultant

Advised Isintu African Accessories, a Langa Township micro-enterprise, on revenue growth and positioning. Built the business a bookkeeping system tracking inventory valuation, input costs and margins; designed its brand collateral; and launched a website to reach tourist and wholesale buyers beyond Langa.

Revenue was up 15% month-on-month within a month of the engagement ending.

Jul – Aug 2025 Hong Kong SAR

Truth Capital Asset Management

Analyst Intern

At a HKD 560M AUM multi-asset firm, authored monthly cross-asset regulatory updates assessing implications for equities, FX, repo and crypto assets, and researched China macro-credit — fiscal constraints and deleveraging risk framed as country credit exposure. Presented research memos and scenario analyses to senior management in monthly investment meetings.

Drove research on real-world-asset integration into art funds, benchmarking securitization pathways against Hong Kong VASP licensing and custody requirements, and executed KYC/AML checks, reconciliations and internal-control validation in line with SFC standards.

Leadership & Community

Toronto · Jun 2026 – Present

Capital Markets Accelerator Program

Selected as one of 30 candidates for Rotman Commerce’s competitive capital-markets development program — case-based training in financial statement analysis, valuation and stock pitching, with alumni mentorship across the street.

Hong Kong · Jan 2023 – Jun 2025

Splash Foundation — Swimming Coach

Two and a half years coaching migrant domestic workers and refugees, weekly classes of ten adults. Thirty-plus participants went from beginners to independent swimmers. It taught me more about building trust across a language gap than any classroom has.
